Whities is a London based recording label curated by ex-Boiler Room chief programmer Nic Tasker. What started with the intention of providing a platform for off-kilter leftfield techno, has in less than four years, morphed into an eclectic and sound design orientated stable that remains committed to the evolution of experimental forms. The label now dominates a sonically-rich space deviating between the compelling offerings of Avalon Emerson, Lanark Artefax, Minor Science, Giant Swan, Tessela, Kowton and Reckonwrong. Connecting all releases to date is a very precise sense of musicality, with an over-riding commitment to charged compositions that are voluminous in melodic structure and emotion. From the crystalline futurism of Bjork collaborator Lanark Artefax to the luscious enveloping soundscapes of Avalon Emerson, here is a label that challenges the darkness favoured by its peers, instead finding solace in more colourful, non-algorithmic terroir. Whities has formed lasting relationships with many of the artists, furthermore providing a collaborative platform for working on projects in art, film and fashion. Designer and creative lead Alex McCullough, the man behind Whities artwork, has been equally as intrinsic to the label’s output and identity. Recent admiration from the fashion set has concluded with Whities providing immersive sound design for the JW Anderson SS18 fashion show in Milan; and Chanel Métiers D’art 18/19.
