Tri Angle Records

Firmly closing its hallowed doors in early 2020, Robin Carolan’s experimental imprint renders a lasting mark on the electronic scene as one of the few labels that have maintained a consistent and coherent sonic identity after a full decade of existence. From 2010 to 2020, Tri Angle Records founder and head of A&R, Carolan continually unearthed and championed a rare breed of deeply influential and uncompromising independent musicians including Forest Swords, Clams Casino, The Haxan Cloak, serpentwithfeet, Fatima Al Qadiri, Rabit, Holy Other, Vessel, Katie Gately, Lotic, and Roly Porter to name an unapologetic few. As a singular iconic beacon of noise artists, sound designers, innovative composers, ambient specialists, and wondrous singer-songwriters, the Tri Angle stable encouraged its roster to share their unabridged obsessions with unnerving ambiance, in turn allowing their distinct sounds to permeate the worlds of pop, rap and mainstream culture. The news of the labels closure is dispiriting and provokes wider questioning around sustainability going forward, but unequivocally the label leaves behind an admirable legacy and a memorable body of work to inspire the creative industries on an enduring basis.
