Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom Teeth is a London-based experimental electronic label set up by close friends and collaborators Facta and K-LONE in 2014. Initially launched as an output for the experimental no-name bass-heavy dance music that was coming out of UK clubs during the post-dubstep fallout, the label first made its name releasing the early output of a slew of creative young producers that included Wen, Acre, Hodge and Simo Cell. Drawing influence from grime, garage, techno and experimental electronics, the label played a pivotal role in shaping the ever-shifting sound of the era’s club scene alongside kindred labels like Livity Sound, No Symbols and Timedance. But true to the exploratory spirit of its inception, after these early releases the label’s sound proceeded to wander, taking in increasing influence from a range of sounds beyond the remit of UK soundsystems, amalgamating a broad pool of influences that spanned fourth world ambient, modern classical, downtempo and beyond. The result has been a signature sound that has over the years become distinct to the point where the label’s releases are now instantly recognisable to a global audience far beyond Bristol’s bassbins. Bleeping FM melodies, colourfully wonky synths, broken technoid rhythms and otherworldly ambience are all regular calling cards, as is a dual focus on bringing club rhythms into the home listening environment, and likewise, bringing introspective home-listening qualities to the club. This mission statement is best exemplified by the label’s shift in focus towards the LP format, which began with K-LONE’s 2020 critically acclaimed debut ‘Cape Cira’ - an album that seamlessly brought together the label’s dancefloor and non-dancefloor tendencies. Albums from Facta and Tristan Arp followed alongside melodically inventive and rhythmically complex records by likeminded experimentalists like Parris, Piezo and Lurka, cementing the label’s reputation as a unique and essential output for forward thinking electronic music.
